KDnuggets: Successful Data Mining Applications

Although data mining is not the same as predictive analytics, a recent poll on KDnuggets is interesting nevertheless. The Poll: Successful Data Mining Applications identified the industries and fields where respondants had been successful. The areas with the best reponse rates were Banking and CRM. The second tier were Credit, Direct Marketing, Fraud, Insurance and Retail. This struck me as interesting as these are very nearly the same areas that show the most promise for business rules and predictive analytics. All this goes to reinforce the idea that data mining, business rules and predictive analytics are an interesting and related set of technologies. The name Enterprise Decision Management encompasses these technologies and, you will be unsuprised to know, has the most traction in these same industries and areas.
